Dark Horse Direct’s celebration of the 30th Anniversary of Mike Mignola’s Hellboy continues with the Hellboy 30th Anniversary: Letterpress Set. This bundle of five (5) 4-inch by 6-inch prints features black and white Hellboy illustrations by Mike Mignola printed on an original 1955 Vandercook 219AB press on heavy 100lb cover stock. Limited to just 666 sets available, this gorgeous collection comes complete with a hand-numbered, letterpress printed, red belly-band.

In artwork, chiaroscuro is the use of strong contrast in light and dark. Few artists have mastered the technique as skillfully as Mike Mignola, whose work is as effective in black and white as it is in color. This is why we've partnered with the great folks at The Press Room in Austin, TX on a run of specialty crafted Hellboy Letterpress Print Sets. Letterpress printing is one of the oldest forms of relief printing. Plates are created from the artwork and feature a raised surface, like a stamp. Ink is then applied to the raised surface, and the paper is pressed against the surface to transfer the artwork onto the paper leaving an elegant and tactile impression of the art.
